Floral Preservation FAQs

How long will it take to receive my finished piece?

Once we receive your flowers, our typical turnaround time is about 6–8 months. This may be shortened or extended by Resin & Root depending on the complexity of your order and our current workload. Because the preservation process involves many careful steps, it cannot be rushed—but we promise to return your finished piece(s) to you as soon as possible.

To help your flowers look their absolute best, we ask that you get them to us within 24–48 hours after your event. The fresher they are when we start the drying process, the more beautiful they’ll preserve. While we can’t bring tired blooms back to life, we can capture their beauty if they arrive quickly. If you’re local to Thibodaux, LA, you can drop them off in person within that timeframe. If you’re not nearby, simply overnight ship them so they reach us as soon as possible.

Absolutely! Give those blooms a little dusting and send them our way. Just keep in mind that air-dried flowers will have a different look compared to flowers we dry using silica. As long as you’re happy with their current appearance, we can preserve them beautifully. The only exception is flowers that have been frozen—unfortunately, they will develop mold once placed in resin.

Yes! Once you sign your proposal contract, we’ll send you detailed instructions for shipping your flowers to us. You’ll need to place them in the mail within 24 hours of your event. If your wedding is on a Saturday, keep the flowers in fresh water and store them in a refrigerator or a cool, dark room, then ship them first thing Monday morning. Flowers must be sent via overnight shipping so we can begin drying them before they start to wilt or brown. While overnight shipping can be costly, we promise the investment in preserving your flowers is well worth it. Please note, we do not cover the cost of shipping.

Yes, absolutely! If you’d like to include special items such as a necklace, ribbon, pin, rosary, or another meaningful piece from your wedding or a memorial service, just let us know. Most items are easy to incorporate, though for certain materials we may need to do a little research first to ensure they won’t react negatively with the resin.

Resin & Root is not responsible for any damages that occur while your flowers are being shipped to us. If damage does happen in transit, the shipping company would be responsible. For this reason, we strongly recommend purchasing shipping insurance for peace of mind. If your flowers arrive damaged, we’ll do our best to work with you and can help replace them at wholesale cost.

If you don’t have your original flowers but would still love a preservation piece, we can recreate your bouquet for you! You’ll just need to cover the cost of the replacement flowers at wholesale price and provide us with photos of your bouquet. Please note that some blooms may be difficult—or sometimes impossible—to source depending on the season, but we’ll always do our very best to match your original arrangement.

Yes! We’re happy to preserve artificial flowers, or even create a mix of real and artificial blooms if that’s your preference. Just be sure to let us know in advance if your bouquet includes artificial flowers.

Most of the time, your flowers will look very close to how they did when they were fresh! Some blooms may change color as they dry—for example, red flowers often shift to a deep purple or burgundy. Your wedding flowers may also develop bruising that becomes visible once they’re encased in resin. While bruising can’t be removed, it can be minimized by handling your bouquet gently on your wedding day and avoiding a bouquet toss. Many people find that these little imperfections add character and charm to their keepsake!

Yes! We provide a layout for each of your blocks so you can see the design. Please note that layouts are not offered for smaller items, such as ring holders. You can request changes, but keep in mind that flowers are delicate, and moving them too much can cause damage.

I typically do not return unused flowers, but will do so upon request! Please let us know that you’d like your extra flowers returned before signing your contract. If you’re not local, there will also be an additional fee to cover shipping your extra flowers back to you.

You will be notified during each stage of the preservation process (i.e. when flowers are received, when they have completed the drying process, when they have completed the preserving process, and when the order has been shipped).

Yes—while we use high-quality, UV-resistant resin, all resin will naturally develop a slight amber tone over time. Many people find this gives the flowers a warm, “golden hour” glow. If you’d like to minimize yellowing, we recommend adding a black background, which hides most (if not all) of the color change. Yellowing is usually most noticeable from the sides of your preservation piece.

Yes, resin-preserved flowers can naturally fade a little over time. We use UV-resistant materials to help slow this process, but some gentle color changes are part of their natural aging. Many people find that this subtle shift adds charm and character to their keepsake!
